An evaluation of the travel behaviour of children discusses ways in which various travel limitations and attitudes affect children's travel choice. The author examines, as part of a broad study of children's use, evaluation and knowledge of the environment, the travel patterns of samples of teenagers in Toronto. Distances travelled for various types of journey and activity are tabulated. The study compares and demonstrates the travel demands of children from city and suburban areas. In another study described differences in attitude to bicycle travel and the development of independence were considered. It is concluded that although much effort is given to planning children's playground areas, further thought should be given to the creation of safer environmental conditions in which children can safely negotiate their daily pursuits.
