Abstract

Describes the geographical setting of the community, its climate, available medical resources, and general nutritional level of the population. Transportation, communication, work habits, marriage patterns, housing, and standard of living are discussed. Attitudes toward having children, and views on physiology, diet during pregnancy, and illness are considered. Religious and superstitious beliefs concerning pregnancy and birth, diet in pregnancy and birth customs and their significance are reported. Describes the practice of midwifery, attitudes toward modern medicine and customs of Thai-Muslims. Contains a glossary of Thai terms used.
