The article describes oblique arteries and their influence on traffic. Oblique arteries, those involving a slanting direction, are frequently used to minimize travel distance and provide visual variety. The article discusses the tendency of patterns with obliques to build high central concentrations probably because of the tendency of obliques to draw traffic to themselves. So long as oblique arteries exist and are thrown open for public use, they will draw traffic to their bordering and especially their terminal areas. The problem for the urban transportation planner is to decide when and where, this added volume can be accommodated and prove beneficial for the immediate and long term future.
