This paper presents the joint research that is conducted by a consortium of 17 European partners, lead by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). The project’s overall objective is to build a toolbox to help European cities in the design and operation of new or upgraded urban interchanges, as a way to provide greater support, services and satisfaction to the travellers and users, as well as to interchange operators, and to societal and economic actors that depend on the efficiency of interchange operations. On the basis of a state of the art study the NODES project identifies a set of criteria and performance indicators. A dedicated toolset is developed as well. The toolset allows for an improved performance on the basis of criteria and performance indicators with a focus on fulfilling travelers and citizens' needs. The consortium identified and developed approximately 100 tools. The paper and the presentation describe how their effectiveness in improving interchange facilities can be outlined.
