Abstract

Would the deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) enhance the use of public transit? A recent study reveals that a large percentage of non-transit users would consider using these systems if certain information, such as electronic display of schedules and routes, was available. This paper, based on research conducted in two areas of Northern California, reviews the effects of advanced information of commuters' willingness to use transit and the market opportunities of such systems.
