Geographic Information Systems Studies Decision Support System Applications 3D Modeling in Geospatial Applications

Abstract

This paper presents the general strategy for implementation of a geographic information system (GIS) in the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). It discusses the technical aspects of using ArcInfo for the GIS, relates the current projects that are under development, and describes future strategic planning efforts for GIS deployment. The focus of IDOT was on assimilating, integrating and displaying transportation information as an aide in decision making. The provision of a stable department-wide geographic base will help with that process.
