Abstract

Biotechnology is often seen as one of the new leading technologies of the 21st century. Although the claims are often exaggerated, there is no doubt that there has been a remarkable wave of successful commercialisation processes and intensified research and development leading to a fast differentiation into many different technologies and applications. Economically, the most important are the new pharmaceutical products resulting from the discovery of new active substances and technologies such as genomics and gene therapy. These innovation processes are organised by public research centres as well as small biotech fu-ms and big pharmaceutical multinationals. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
