Horex: A Computer Program For The Construction Of Examination Schedules

Abstract

This application note describes an aJgorithm designed to construct exainination schedules in such a way that: (1) all examinations take place within a given number of days; (2) examinations can be held in two separate sessions each day; (3) students are never scheduled to take two examinations at the same time; (4) the number of students having two examinations during the same day is kfept as low as possible; (5) as few students as possible will have examinations on two consecutive days; (6) no more examinations are scheduled than room capacities will allow.HOREX is currently being used to construct the examination schedule of l’Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal
