This article is based on a handwritten collection of address notes from the archive of Russian-Swiss musicologist and organist Jacques Handschin (1886, Moscow – 1955, Basel). The materials of this collection allow us to expand and deepen our knowledge of the scholar's international circle of scientific communication. This study focuses on Handschin's contacts in Paris during the war and early post-war periods. Analysis of the collection sheds light on the communication between different generations of musicologists, such as Handschin's contacts with the Parisian youth of the post-war years: Nanie Bridgman and François Lesure. Three ‘personal’ essays say about Paul-Marie Masson, Guillaume De Van and André Schaeffner; these materials present some dramatic episodes from the history of French (and international) musicology during the occupation of Paris, as well as Handschin's perception of these events. An analysis of the materials in Handschin's collection of address notes also raises a more general question about the specifics of this type of source: about the special nature of its informativeness, the ways and prospects for its study.
