Kampungs are a distinctive type of settlement in Indonesia, known for fostering community living and found in both urban and rural settings. The “tourism kampung” concept has recently gained popularity among tourists and local governments as a strategy for economic growth, serving as both a tourist attraction and a driver of economic vibrancy. However, exposure to tourism and shifts in activities introduce new spatial dynamics for kampungs. This research examines these emerging spatial dynamics by exploring how the boundaries that delineate activities are defined and redefined, highlighting how the juxtaposition of tourism activities and the day-to-day lives of residents affects the use of space. Qualitative investigations were conducted through observations, behaviour mapping, and interviews at Kajoetangan Heritage Tourism Kampung in Malang, Indonesia. The findings reveal that tourism activities drive shifting territorial arrangements, where fixed and flexible territories shape the use of space within buildings and corridors. By providing a comprehensive understanding of territories within tourism kampung, this research enhances urban design and policy development for tourism kampung while providing broader insights into urban-based Indonesian tourism and community development. Aligned with SDG 11, tourism kampungs can evolve alongside urban growth, improving quality of life without compromising their cultural identity and livability.
