Hotels in Indonesia, particularly in Lombok, are at the forefront of the green transition, balancing rapid tourism growth with environmental responsibility. This case study examines how long-term thinking is operationalised in Lombok’s hospitality sector through two participating hotels: Holiday Resort Lombok and Innit Lombok. Both have been involved in the ‘Swisscontact and Lombok Tourism Polytechnic Green Skills Gap Assessment Studies’, which demonstrate how transferable and transformative skills foster a workforce capable of anticipating change, making interconnected decisions, and embedding sustainability as a long-term cultural norm. This case study focuses on future and anticipatory thinking, systems thinking, and inclusive leadership. Drawing on Indonesian values such as ‘gotong royong’ (mutual cooperation) and respect for ‘adat’ (customary law), this case study illustrates how these skills shape how hotel leaders and employees envision, plan, and act for a resilient and sustainable future.
