Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of interest of students in participating in basketball extracurricular activities at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Taman Sidoarjo and analyze the intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors that affect these interests. This study uses a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The research population amounted to 30 participants who participated in basketball extracurriculars with a research sample of 15 male students determined using the quota sampling technique. The research instrument was in the form of a closed questionnaire with a Likert scale consisting of 40 statements that included intrinsic factors (motivation, attention, and needs) and extrinsic factors (coach, environment, and family). The data is analyzed using descriptive statistics with the help of Microsoft Excel. The results of the study showed that the level of interest of students in participating in basketball extracurriculars at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Taman was in the high category with a percentage of 82.29%. Intrinsic factors obtained an average percentage of 86.92% with a high category, consisting of indicators of attention (88.54%), motivation (87.78%), and needs (84.44%). Meanwhile, extrinsic factors obtained an average percentage of 78.59% with the sufficient category, consisting of indicators of trainers (83.33%), environment (79.37%), and family (73.09%). Based on these results, it is concluded that intrinsic factors are the most dominant factor in influencing students' interest compared to extrinsic factors. Thus, students' interest in participating in basketball extracurriculars is more influenced by motivation, attention, and needs that come from within the students, while external factors play a supporting role in increasing and maintaining this interest.
