The debate about the age of the traditional ‘kite’ motif in rock art at Kabori Cave Complex is controversial because it has been considered earlier than the evidence for kites found in China. The Muna people still preserve the kite traditions. The similarities and differences between the kite forms found in cave, cliff, and niche paintings in the Kabori Cave Complex and those practised by the Muna people are examined. The kite motifs in the paintings are simple shapes made from a piece of leaf, called the katimboka, and a framed kite is called kaghati kolope.
