There are many theoretical positions that address both from neurosciences and from the psychosocial approach, all relying on extensive empirical support. Taking input from the first approach, and in the context of positive psychology, David Watson (2002) has developed the two-factor theory of Affection, which has received much support through the use of self-reports. We propose to study emotion characteristics in young adults and elderly adults in Mar del Plata city by the administration of the Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS). A 130 cases sample of both sexes (65 elderly and 65 young adults) was studied. The results show no significant differences between age groups in mean dimensional scores. In the analysis by items elderly adults scored significantly higher only in two items, those related to fear and dread. The fact that elderly adults show similar values to young people in both, positive and negative affects, refused the existence of age related decrease regarding affectivity.
