The most detailed piece of information about Paul's youth is what one read in Acts xxii 3. This text, supplemented with a few other data from the Acts 4 and from Paul himself, serves as basis for the description of his youth. Tarsus and Jerusalem are mentioned, and these names serve as incentives to conjure up a picture. Acts xxii reproduces the defence which Paul is supposed to have made in Aramaic before the Jewish multitude. One of the principal elements in the discussion of his youth in Tarsus has been the acquaintance which he exhibits with the Greek tongue and culture, and his sovereign command of the Septuagint. It is thus made to appear as if the later apostle had only once in his life had a chance of corning into touch with Hellenism, namely in his youth. Keywords: Greek culture; Hellenism; Jerusalem; Paul's youth; Septuagint; Tarsus
