This paper argues that the clitics pronoun paradigm me, te, se …, in sequences as Juan se salio de la reunion or Juan se ha visto tres peliculas traditionally considered in the literature as an aspectual perfective clitic, is, in fact, a sort of aspectual operator. This operator, culminative in nature, focuses on a phrase of the internal (sub-eventive) structure of the events denoted by the predicates which it cooccurs with. The analysis, that is insered in the theory of event decomposition (Pustejovsky, 1991, 1995), permits an account of a number of data that remain unexplained in previous studies and has interesting consequences for a better understanding of adverbial modification and secondary predication, among other related phenomena.
