The views of towns realized in XVIth Century are framed in the splendor that the\nchorographic genre acquires in the Spanish Golden Century. During the reign of Phillip II\nthe chorography with the painting was at the service of the Crown, and its main objective\nwas to devote itself to the demonstration of the Habsburg Monarchy´s grandeurs. In this\nframework it was situated the charge that the king made to the Flemish painter Anton\nVan den Wyngaerde to realize a series of panoramic draws of several Spanish towns, like\nJaén. In this view the artist combine topographic, urban and landscape elements, and\nhe try to show the aspect more human and quotidian of the city. The detailed analysis of\nthis work allows us to recognize which are the components that represent the political\nand religious powers and the economic strengths of the town.
