Abstract

In the last few years we have begun to develop and investigate an approach to language acquisition we have called ‘statistical learning ’ (a term adopted from a related literature in computational linguistics; see Charniak, 1993). The central notions are a blend of ideas from structural linguistics (cf. Harris, 1951)
