Abstract Comparison of glass fragments in forensic work is commonly done by measurements of refractive index and density. These methods are particularly well-suited for flat glass such as in windows. Further differentiation has been shown feasible by elemental analysis. Neutron activation analysis (NAA) [1], spark source mass spectrometry (SSMS) [2], and energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDX) [3] have all been successful in differentiating window glasses having identical physical properties.
