The Current State and Future Directions in Jazz Research: A Personal Perspective.

Abstract

As is apparent from its title, this paper will focus on two areas: first, it will offer generalizations about the current state of jazz research what has been done and how thorough it is; second, it will propose initiatives which would advance the state of jazz research. Although they represent the opinions of the author, most of the assertions made in this article could be documented. It is largely due to a desire to avoid negative criticisms of particular individuals that such documentation is avoided here.
