What happens to the metadata?

  • Corpus first. A DOI or arXiv id we already imported resolves to the real work — no second copy is made.
  • Then public sources. Crossref for DOIs, arXiv for preprints, Open Library for ISBNs, OpenAlex for landing pages.
  • Nothing is invented. If a source has no venue or year, the citation leaves the slot out rather than guessing.
  • Adding to a project stores the citation as a manual bibliography row; an external work never pretends to be in the corpus.
