A psychoanalytic account of new sexualities cannot avoid a theory of sexual difference. Any account of the plasticity of sexual behaviour and identities, their transformations over time and social space, can only provide an inventory of sexual possibilities. Now this might serve as a polemical history lesson to the guardians of normality, but it cannot provide a framework for understanding the unconscious significance of sexuality in relation to the sexes.
