The practice of executive coaching has grown rapidly in recent years. Coaching engagements in organizations can be quite unfocused in that coaching is provided based on the merits of an individual request rather than the business needs and requirements. This chapter focuses on strategic uses of executive coaching. More specifically it discusses the development of a “coaching culture” in organizations, and the use of executive coaching in action learning programs, succession planning programs, and organizational on-boarding programs. These enterprise-wide programs can provide participants with strategic alignment between their personal developmental goals and the business direction. To the extent available, the chapter employs and therefore shares the author’s evidence-based practices and, where applicable, offers case studies to bring the specific executive coaching application to life. Controlled Vocabulary Terms Action learning; Executive coaching; Succession planning
