Training needs analysis (TNA) is an important component of instructional systems because the success of the planning, execution, and evaluation of training in organizational environments depends on the quality of information generated in the TNA stage. This chapter aims to review the scientific literature on training needs analysis (TNA), addressing topics such as the areas in which these studies are applied, the nature of research, research design, participant profiles, the main instruments used to collect data, procedures for collecting data, analysis methods, training needs predictor variables and the use of multilevel approaches in TNA, among others. The initial search for articles was conducted based on literature reviews published in the Annual Review of Psychology. The articles were analyzed based on conceptual and methodological dimensions. Analysis of the literature is divided into topics such as multilevel TNA analysis, methodological characteristics, conceptual questions and TNA models, and predictors of needs.
