Abstract

Eines der anspruchsvollsten und zugleich einflussreichsten Modelle der Bildinterpretation stammt von dem Kunsthistoriker Erwin Panofsky. Jene Sinndimension, die im Zentrum seiner Methode steht, nämlich die ikonologische, bezeichnete Panofsky (1932, 115) auch als diejenige des „Dokumentsinns“. Er bezog sich damit explizit auf den Wissenssoziologen Karl Mannheim und dessen „dokumentarische Methode der Interpretation“.
