Abstract

Abstract Uwe Gielen was born on August 15, 1940, in Berlin, Germany, to Ursula and Alfred Gielen, a housewife and civil servant, respectively. Following the destruction of their home in a bombing raid in the early 1940s, the family first relocated to the alpine farming village of Gailenberg, Bavaria, and in 1948 to the town of Lindau.
