Local government in Canada

Abstract

The Seventh Edition continues to provide a straightforward, factual overview of municipal government developments across Canada. The importance and challenge of fulfilling the representative/political role as well as the service delivery role of municipal governments remains a central theme. The examination of the broader economic and political context within which municipalities operate includes an expanded discussion of the nature and impact of the forces of globalization and the increasing emphasis on multilevel governance initiatives. A new chapter on governing processes and values gives particular attention to the issue of ethical behaviour in municipal government.
