Driver Intention to Use Electric Cars Using Technology Acceptance Model

Abstract

Development of a country unable develop rapidly if the existing transportation system is not systematic. It means that, a systematic development of the transportation system is an important factor that makes the country's development. In Malaysia, the increased use of private cars is caused by inadequate public transport and does not meet the general conditions. This study was conducted to identify the factors that contributed drivers intention to use electric cars. To explore this issue, Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is employed to predict acceptance towards driver intention to use electric cars. A Self-administered questionnaires were distributed among 217 car driver in Batu Pahat District. The correlation and regression analyses were performed to determine the relationship between TAM constructs and intention to use electric car. Results shows all contructs were found statistically significant. In addition, Perceived Ease of Use is stronger factors that contribute to driver to use electric car compared to Perceived Usefulness. The level of the acceptance towards driver intention to use electric car is highly positive.
