How might educators effectively deliver management education abroad -by adapting to the local environment or by using a cookie-cutter approach? We propose the decision depends on international orientation (divergence or convergence), international experience, desired control over foreign programs, and home and host environmental factors. Adaptation makes sense if educators believe management theories are embedded in culture. However, maintaining academic standards and containing costs becomes the issue. The cookie-cutter approach, while cost-effective and easier, may jeopardize program quality. We present cases for both approaches to management education abroad, discuss implementation issues of both approaches and possible solutions to these issues.
