The word “location” in the title is meant to refer to both the actual places where women were active in social work, as well as to the historiographical discussions about the role of gender in writing histories of social work. I have taken three historical locations where women were active in the field of social work as starting-points for my research: the home, public welfare, and the first schools and courses for female welfare workers, all within German-speaking Switzerland. 1 These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
