Abstract

RAÚL L. MADRID is an associate professor in the Department of Government at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of Retiring the State: The Politics of Pension Privatization in Latin America and Beyond and he is a co-editor of Leftist Governments in Latin America: Successes and Shortcomings. He is currently finishing a book on the emergence of ethno-populist parties in Latin America.
