The authors present the state of founds and analysis of obsidian industries in the Provence region. The series linked to a precise archaeological context remain very few. They are often connected with the different stages of the Southern Chassey Complex known for a high level of exchange processes. The successive exploitation of the Liparian and Sardinian sources, as well as the raw material procurement strategy, lets the authors disprove the Renfrew's predictive pattern based upon the attractibility of the Western Mediterranean sources and the down-the-line exchange. The very few quantities of raw material transported and the long distances from the sources to the settlements suggest certainly that such a distribution was first associated with a social requirement.
