Despite the aging of the population, a literature review identified few recent studies tracking the types of services offered by public libraries to older adults in the United States. This study reports results of a survey of suburban public libraries and library systems in the New York metropolitan area and Atlanta, Georgia. The study is presented in two parts. Part 1 of the study presents the background, methodology, and survey data for all respondents. Part 2 presents a further analysis of results for those who included demographic data. Counties with a higher percentage of adults aged sixty-five and older reported a greater range of services than those with lower such populations. This did not necessarily hold true for outreach, collections/facilities, or advocacy/planning measures. Routine data collection on services to older adults and better promotion of exemplary programs may assist libraries in better meeting the needs of this expanding population demographic.
