Substantial professional education and training are delivered through partnerships between universities (typically schools of social work) and public child welfare agencies. These partnerships resulted from federal legislation that created funding opportunities for training. Most of what is known about these Title IV-E training partnerships is based on the experiences of the academic partners. This article focuses on the perspectives of training personnel for public child welfare agencies. Phone interviews were conducted with 60 participants representing training departments of state agencies. The data suggest strong support for these partnerships from the agencies' perspectives. Several benefits were noted as well as a few challenges, primarily related to funding uncertainty. Overall, the use of federal IV-E funding for partnerships is growing and evolving in many creative directions.
