Outline A case study of UK Enterprise Agencies is used to discuss issues concerning how small business advice should be delivered. Developments in Agency staffing, funding, management and the targeting of business advice are examined. The development of more specialist staff is called for. It is argued that the best way to coordinate support and reduce duplication is through the development of formal networks between Agencies. Formal networking involving the referral of clients to specialised agencies and the development of formal strategies of support is found to be underdeveloped. It is argued that much potential for reducing duplication and the overlap of support lies in formal networking.
