A repeat field exercise in the Lomond Hills area of Scotland using Linton's method of assessing scenery is described. The purpose is to investigate sources of possible variation in deriving the scores of the Linton method. Variations are found to occur in both the Land Use and Land Form components. Land Use variations occur in the distinction between Treeless Farmland and Richly Varied Farmland, and when two Land Uses occur in roughly equal proportions in the same kilometre square. Land Form variations result between Lowland and Low Uplands, in exaggerating Relative Relief and when two Land Form types occur in the same kilometre square. Suggestions are made concerning the resolution of these problems.
