Research on the aggressive varieties of deviant sexual conduct has been primarily concerned with the violator and his characteristics, much less in the victim, and only rarely in the nature of the offenderoffended relationship. This paper reports on selected aspects of the nature of heterosexual dyads involving male sex aggression. Sex aggression here will refer to aggressive male attempts for coitus which were forceful to the degree of being disagreeable and offensive to the female. No effort was made to assess the success of such efforts and, consequently, we will restrict ourselves to episodes of aggressive attempts. These acts are not the male efforts for coitus ordinarily anticipated in dating-courtship relations yet, on the other hand, they are usually not sufficiently violent to Le thought of as rape attempts. For the most part, these aggressions involved forceful attempts at removing clothing and forceful attempts to manoeuver the female into a physically advantageous position for sexual access. Basically, then, our purpose is to examine certain features of aggressive-maleoffended-female pairings in order to show that these relationships are not random occurrences among dating-courtship couples but rather that they tend to pattern meaningfully with certain personal and social variables.
