In this paper we present the personal histories and career paths of some of the pioneer psychologists in the fi rst third of the twentieth century in Spain. Among them we will pay special attention to Maria Luisa Navarro, Mercedes Rodrigo, Matilde Huici, Regina Lago. They all were granted a research fellowship by Junta Ampliacion de Estudios e Investigaciones Cientifi cas. Reclaiming their personal histories will help us to reinterpret in a less biased way their participation in the construction of the psychology of education. Reconstructing the professional career of women from various academic disciplines consists not solely in compensatory history or contribution history with their being placed on the same level as their male colleagues, but in presenting their contributions on their own terms, highlighting the genderized elements of the past.
