The activity theory of aging, originally constructed on the basis of American research and tested predominantly in the USA, asserts that an individual's life satisfaction is directly related to his degree of social interaction or level of activity. Using multiple regression analysis, this theory was examined with a sample of elderly people living in the South of England and found to be revelant in the English context. If applicable to the elderly population as a whole, the theory has important implications for social policy.
