The food sector has, as many other parts of the economy, been strongly affected by globalisation. Resulting changes in consumption and diet-related problems point to the importance of the implications for human well-being. Food markets have become more international by trade in goods and services but also by foreign direct investment (FDI) and the growth of transnational corporations (TNCs). This edited volume seeks to assemble the evidence on the relation between the internationalisation of food markets on the one hand and food distribution, consumption patterns, diet and health on the other hand. This collection of 15 chapters is the eventual outcome of a Forum on Trade and Healthy Food and Diets that was held at McGill University, in Montreal, Canada, in November 2007. The book is addressed to researchers and practitioners in public health. Also food and trade economists interested in the implications of global food trade on human diets will find it an interesting reading.
