The Australian hospitality and tourism industry is a major player in terms of national wealth creation. The industry in Queensland generated some $7.7 billion in 1995 and the Queensland Treasury has confirmed tourism, at 10%, as the largest contributor to Gross State Product. Worldwide, the hospitality industry is, however, failing to recruit and importantly, retain sufficient number of hospitality management graduates. This situation has potentially serious economic consequences.
