The Aesthetic Education Curriculum Program was a large-scale curriculum reform effort dedicated to the establishment of aesthetic education in the public schools. It was decided to supplement rather than supplant existing programs in the individual arts, to implement the program through packaged instructional materials, and to develop the program in two phases with two staffs at two locations. These decisions are seen, in retrospect, to have had a negative impact on the acceptance of the program in the schools. It is con- jectured that in order for a curriculum reform effort such as the Aesthetic Education Curriculum Program to succeed, the necessary curriculum change either has to be man- dated by some educational authority or established through the teacher training process.
