This study explores the impact of ethnic media on Latino university students’ bicultural identity development in a predominantly English-speaking society. Twenty Latino university students who are currently involved in either graduate or undergraduate education in a South Texas Higher education Institution responded to survey relating to the topic of inquiry. A third part was interviewed. Findings suggested that Latino university students hold positive attitudes toward using Spanish ethnic media in their daily lives. In particular,, the participants perceived ethnic media as an important tool for (1) retrieving ethnic cultural values and sources, (2) developing a strong sense of belonging, (3) reinforcing Spanish language skills, (4) communicating with in-group and family members, (5) interacting with mainstream society, and (6) functioning in both heritage and mainstream cultures. Recommendations and implications for bilingual and dual-language education are discussed.
