Abstract: The gold vessels of the Nordic Bronze Age constitute the most significant group of its kind in Europe. This paper deals with technological aspects of the production of these Scandinavian precious metal vessels. The analysis of tool marks and surface structures plays an important role. This contribution aims to reconstruct the different steps of the operational chain, the tools and their handling. In addition, decorative techniques and repairs are considered. Using the evidence of tool finds, this study demonstrates that a local production of sheet metal vessels was possible in southern Scandinavia. The interdisciplinary approach adopted here combines archaeological methods with archaeometallurgy, ethnoarchaeology and experimental archaeology, information from ancient and medieval written sources and depictions of metalworking.
