Recent cleaning and reconstruction of stone architectural elements (pillars, lintels) allow a better understanding of the painted motifs and their disposition. The author (after a first study in 1987) reconsiders the whole of the architectural painted decoration of Roquepertuse and its use as a complement to the sculpture. For this purpose he uses a direct copy of the perceptible painted traces, sometimes clarified by using ultraviolet fluorescence. The catalogue is increased by most of the remains on which traces of the use of polychromy have been preserved : e.g. at Entremont, Glanum and Sainte-Anastasie (in the Gard department). Several graphic reconstructions of decorations are proposed by means of two colours most frequently recovered (black and red). Completed by black-and-white and colour photographs, this new documentation clearly shows the stylistic and artistic importance of this account for the protohistoric societies and the underlying reality of the messages expressed.
