E conomic globalization has had complex and uncertain effects on developing states. For the most part, since World War II, aid flows from the global North to global South have reinforced asymmetries of power, dependent relationships, and the foreign policy objectives of developed states. But with globalization, the nature of these relationships has changed in content and character, and possibly in their effects as well. The changing nature of conditionalities (i.e., the policy requirements attached to loans and grants) stands as an illustration of these changes and the resultant uncertainties. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
