This chapter examines the history of the evolution of psychology from a science of the living being to the science of the human mind. It explains that when psychology was redefined as the science of the anima separabilis a break occurred in the semantic history of psychology which signaled the disintegration of the Aristotelian framework within which psychology had been the generic science of living beings. It also discusses the proper place of psychology after the soul ceased to govern vegetative and sensitive functions and was restricted to the mind.
