In this chapter, the idea of art education is tackled by interrogating its constituent terms, art and education, or art and learning, since the central concern of education is effective learning. It will do this through a discussion of Rancière’s work on art and politics, which he describes as dissensual processes. This discussion is used as a template for an exploration of art and learning in order to establish some principles for informing pedagogical work. The notion of dissensus is illustrated through the art project Rogue Game , and implications of this illustration for the temporal architectures of learning, viewed in terms of a disjunctive synthesis, are rehearsed. Finally, dissensus is explored briefly in relation to a politics of affect, as discussed by Massumi, and implications are drawn for pedagogical work. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
