This chapter focuses on the purpose of a performance appraisal, the relevance of goal setting to the performance appraisal, the legal requirements in the West for conducting a performance appraisal, the choice of a measurement scale to appraise job performance, the merits of coaching employees on an on-going basis and self-appraisals.
