The origins of neurodevelopmental delay (NDD) as originally defined by the Institute for Neuro-Physiological Psychology (INPP) began to emerge amidst a maelstrom of theories, claims, and counterclaims as to the possible causes of specific learning difficulties (SpLD). In 1973, the writer of Stress Disease came into contact with a large number of stress-prone individuals, whose symptoms persisted despite repeated attempts at medical or psychological intervention, and was able to examine them for the presence of OBD and to implement the INPP remedial program. INPP screens for neurological, structural, auditory and visual processing difficulties, metabolic functioning, cognitive impairment and socio-environmental considerations. The INPP Method looks specifically for signs of neuromotor immaturity (NMI) confirmed by residual primitive reflexes after six months of age and underdeveloped postural reactions in the school-aged child. NMI describes more specifically than NDD the theory and practice of the INPP method.
